The 2026 Nissan Altima delivers up to an EPA-estimated 36 mpg on the highway, allowing you to tackle your daily commute down I-35E toward downtown Dallas with fewer stops at the pump. As your premier destination for this midsize sedan, Nissan of Lewisville in Lewisville provides a comprehensive breakdown of the streamlined 2026 lineup. This guide details the advanced engine performance, the exact dimensions of the cabin, and the striking new SR Midnight Edition appearance package. Our dealership team frequently recommends this car to Texas drivers who want the efficiency of a sedan paired with the all-weather confidence of available all-wheel drive.

Performance and Engine Specs

The 2026 Altima utilizes a sophisticated 2.5-liter Direct Injection Gasoline four-cylinder engine that perfectly balances immediate passing power with long-term efficiency. The 188 horsepower means you will not struggle to merge into heavy traffic on the Sam Rayburn Tollway. This naturally aspirated powerplant features an aluminum block and head, which significantly reduces the overall weight of the front end for much more responsive steering. The engine is paired with the highly refined Xtronic continuously variable transmission. This transmission eliminates traditional gear hunting, smoothly matching your engine speed to your acceleration demands without any harsh shifts. For buyers looking for a more engaging driving dynamic, the SR grade includes steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, allowing you to manually simulate gear changes for a sportier feel.

You can easily explore these powertrain configurations by browsing our New Altima Inventory.

Engine ConfigurationHorsepowerTorqueEPA-Estimated MPG (City/Hwy/Comb)

2.5L 4-Cylinder (AWD)182 hp @ 6,000 rpm178 lb-ft @ 3,600 rpm25 / 33 / 28

The engineering team optimized this engine to deliver incredible fuel efficiency without sacrificing daily drivability. Front-wheel drive models reach their peak output of 188 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, providing plenty of thrust for city driving. All-wheel drive models see a slight adjustment to 182 horsepower to accommodate the extra drivetrain components. Maintaining this high level of efficiency requires regular upkeep, which is why our factory-trained technicians at our Nissan service center are always ready to assist with your routine maintenance. The implementation of a dual-pinion electric-powered steering system further refines the driving experience, offering light effort at low speeds for parking and firmer feedback when cruising on the highway. The table below illustrates the exact performance and efficiency differences between the available drivetrain setups to help you decide which configuration best fits your commute.

Capabilities

While many midsize sedans force buyers to stick exclusively with front-wheel drive, the 2026 Altima stands out by offering a highly capable Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system. This system continuously monitors road conditions and can instantly redistribute power from the front wheels to the rear wheels, providing vital traction during sudden torrential downpours on congested Texas highways. When the pavement is completely dry, the system defaults to sending 100 percent of the engine power to the front wheels, preserving your maximum fuel efficiency. The moment a loss of traction is detected, up to 50 percent of the power shifts to the rear axle. This means you get the grip you need exactly when you need it, without the constant fuel penalty typically associated with traditional four-wheel drive systems.

The suspension architecture is engineered to handle a variety of road surfaces with absolute composure. The front utilizes an independent strut design with coil springs, while the rear features a sophisticated multi-link independent setup. This combination absorbs the harsh impacts of pothole-ridden city streets while preventing the cabin from feeling floaty at high speeds. The SR grade takes this capability a step further by introducing a specialized sport-tuned suspension. This upgrade stiffens the ride slightly, reducing body roll when taking sharp corners and delivering a much more planted feel for enthusiastic drivers. The following table highlights the critical capability metrics you need to know when evaluating this sedan for your daily driving needs.

Trim Lineup and Key Features

Nissan has heavily streamlined the Altima lineup for the 2026 model year, focusing exclusively on two highly equipped trim levels that deliver incredible value right out of the box. The roster consists of the SV and SR grades. By eliminating bare-bones entry models, the automaker ensures that every buyer receives a premium experience. The SV serves as the foundation, offering a comprehensive suite of digital connectivity and active safety features. The SR shifts the focus toward aggressive styling and enhanced driving dynamics, adding larger wheels, sport seats, and specialized suspension tuning.

A major update for this year is the introduction of the SR Midnight Edition package. This factory-installed upgrade completely transforms the visual identity of the sedan. It replaces the standard brightwork with gloss black exterior trim, black 19-inch alloy wheels, and a contrasting black roof. This package pairs exceptionally well with the available Pearl White TriCoat or Tactical Green Metallic paint options.

Trim LevelKey DifferentiatorsBest For
SV17-inch alloy wheels, 8-inch display, Nissan Safety Shield 360Daily commuters seeking maximum value, comfort, and standard safety technology.
SR19-inch wheels, sport suspension, available Midnight EditionDrivers who prioritize aggressive styling and a more engaging handling dynamic.

Both trims offer optional Premium Packages for buyers who want luxury-level amenities without stepping into a higher price bracket. The SV Premium Package adds a power moonroof, heated front seats, and ProPILOT Assist. The SR Premium Package goes even further, incorporating leather-appointed sport seats and a Bose Premium Sound System. The table below breaks down the key differences between the two primary grades so you can identify the best fit for your lifestyle.

Exterior Design and Utility

The exterior of the 2026 Altima is defined by its deep, swooping character lines and a prominent V-motion front grille that clearly identifies it as a modern Nissan sedan. Beyond pure aesthetics, this sleek profile serves a highly functional purpose. The aerodynamic shape allows the car to slice through the air with minimal resistance, significantly reducing wind noise in the cabin and contributing directly to the impressive highway fuel economy. The front fascia is equipped with standard Intelligent Auto Headlights featuring LED projector beams. These bright white lights cast a long, wide pattern, making it much easier to spot debris or wildlife on poorly lit county roads after dark.

To further enhance aerodynamic efficiency, the vehicle incorporates active grille shutters. These shutters remain closed at highway speeds to push air around the vehicle, and they automatically open when the engine requires additional cooling during slow-moving traffic. The SR grade enhances the aggressive stance with a unique rear diffuser, exposed dual exhaust finishers, and massive 19-inch machined aluminum-alloy wheels. The SV grade utilizes practical 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-season tires with thicker sidewalls, which provides a slightly softer ride over rough pavement.

Interior, Cargo and Dimensions

Front-row occupants in the 2026 Altima are treated to Nissan's signature Zero Gravity bucket seats, a seating technology designed to replicate the weightless posture of astronauts in space. This highly engineered seat design features multiple different pressure points that provide continuous support from your pelvis to your shoulders. The practical translation is that you can drive for hours across the state of Texas without experiencing the lower back fatigue typically caused by standard car seats. The SV grade features durable woven fabric, while the SR upgrades to a sport combo material with vibrant color contrast stitching.

The cabin is exceptionally spacious for a midsize sedan, offering 43.8 inches of front legroom and 35.2 inches of rear legroom. This ensures that tall adults can ride comfortably in both rows without knocking their knees against the dashboard or the seatbacks. When it comes to hauling your belongings, the trunk provides a deep, wide opening that makes loading heavy items incredibly easy. The 15.4 cubic feet of trunk cargo space easily swallows multiple full-size suitcases, a week's worth of groceries, or your golf clubs for a weekend round at the local country club.

Interior DimensionMeasurement
Front Legroom43.8 inches
Rear Legroom35.2 inches

To maximize your hauling flexibility, the rear seats feature a standard 60/40 split fold-down mechanism. You can quickly drop one or both sides of the rear seat using convenient release levers located right inside the trunk, allowing you to transport long items like lumber or area rugs while still retaining room for a rear passenger. The table below outlines the exact physical dimensions of this highly accommodating interior.

Technology and Infotainment

Nissan completely modernizes the cabin experience with an available massive 12.3-inch high-definition color touchscreen display that fundamentally changes how you interact with your media. This upgraded system, standard on the SR and available on the SV via the Premium Package, features crisp graphics and lightning-fast touch responses. It serves as the primary hub for all your digital needs. Even the standard 8-inch display found on base SV models includes NissanConnect software with multi-touch control, ensuring that every buyer receives a highly connected driving experience.

Smartphone integration is seamless across the entire lineup. Wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, allowing you to mirror your favorite navigation apps and music playlists directly onto the dashboard display. If you opt for the larger 12.3-inch screen, these protocols become entirely wireless. You can leave your phone in your pocket or place it on the available wireless charging pad, completely eliminating the clutter of tangled USB cables in your center console. To keep your passengers' devices fully charged, the cabin offers up to four illuminated USB ports, including modern Type-C connections.

Safety Features and Driver Assist

Nissan refuses to treat critical safety technology as a luxury upgrade, which is why the comprehensive Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite is standard equipment on every single 2026 Altima. This network of highly calibrated radar sensors and exterior cameras constantly monitors the environment around your sedan. The standard Automatic Emergency Braking system includes Pedestrian Detection. If a person steps into the street unexpectedly, the vehicle can automatically apply hard braking pressure to help avoid a tragic collision. Similarly, standard Rear Automatic Braking monitors the space directly behind your bumper when reversing, stopping the car instantly if it detects a stationary object like a trash can or parked vehicle.

Navigating the crowded, fast-moving traffic on Interstate 35E is significantly less stressful thanks to standard Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. These systems provide visual and audible warnings if a vehicle is hiding in your blind zone or approaching from the side while you are backing out of a tight parking spot. For buyers who want to alleviate the physical fatigue of long highway commutes, the available ProPILOT Assist system represents a major technological leap.

When engaged on mapped freeways, ProPILOT Assist utilizes a forward-facing camera and radar to keep the sedan perfectly centered in its lane while automatically maintaining a preset distance from the car ahead of you. It can even bring the vehicle to a complete stop in heavy traffic jams and resume speed when the flow clears. The table below outlines additional driver assistance features designed to protect you and your passengers.
