As summer winds down, it is a good time to take a closer look at your car. Changes in temperature, wet roads, and shorter days can put different demands on your vehicle. A few easy checks can help you spot worn or low items before they become bigger issues.

For drivers in Lewisville and near Dallas-Fort Worth, The Colony, Carrollton, and Denton, fall is a good reminder to stay on top of routine maintenance. Here are a few things worth checking before the season gets underway.

  1. Check Your Tires: Check your tire pressure and look at the tread for signs of wear. Cracks, uneven wear, or low tread are good reasons to have your tires inspected.
  2. Test Your Battery: Cooler weather can be harder on an older battery. Look for corrosion around the terminals and watch for slow starts or dim lights. If your battery is a few years old, consider having it tested.
  3. Check Your Fluids: Check your oil, coolant, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid. Leaks and low fluid levels can cause problems, so address them before they worsen.
  4. Inspect Your Wipers: Rainy days make working windshield wipers important. If your wipers leave streaks, skip across the glass, or have cracked rubber, it is time for a new set.
  5. Check Your Lights: Fall means shorter days, so make sure all of your lights are working. Test your brake lights, headlights, turn signals, and other exterior lights, and replace any burned-out bulbs.

Once you have worked through your checklist, take note of anything that needs more attention. A tire that is losing air, a battery that is slow to start, or a light that is not working properly can be easy to overlook during your normal routine. Getting those items checked can help you stay on top of your vehicle’s maintenance.
